McClelland used a .007-second reaction time with a 9.924 at 149.22 mph on the 9.90 index to defeat Phil Unruh’s .026 with a breakout 9.899 at 159.29. It was a close race decided by just .003-second that sent Kyle Rizzoli and his SS/CA 1969 Camaro to the Super Stock winner’s circle in Pomona. Both Rizzoli (.010-second) and GT/IA ’92 Cutlass driver Adam Emmer (.022) hit the mark at the tree, but it was Rizzoli who went on to score his sixth national event win with a 9.579 (9.56) at 133.55 to a 10.120 (10.11), 125.89.
It doesn’t matter how many times Miffy bathes herself—if she’s furry, your seats will be too. Fuel injectors and the rails that hold them are just as susceptible to heat issues as the carburetors they replaced. Located on top of the engine, fuel rails see a lot of heat exposure. On late model vehicles this issue is further compounded by how compact and tight modern engine compartments tend to be, along with the factory engine covers that are all the rage these days, trapping even more heat that can be transferred to the fuel as it flows through the rails on its way to the injectors.
The LSA came equipped with rectangle port (LS3-style) cylinder heads. However, the supercharged heads were Rotocast for added strength. The engines also use the same 4.065 in. bore block. In fact, the engine block casting number is the same as the LS3.
