Got a dog (or well-trained llama) too big to sit in a seat? A good pet barrier can keep them securely in the back—away from your steering wheel and Stray Cats CDs. Most pet barriers offer a universal fit, with adjustable legs that secure to your vehicle’s floor and ceiling. There are larger options available for cargo areas of minivans and SUVs, along with compact barriers designed specifically for the back seat of a car.
Detonation can occur if inlet air temperatures get too high and/or low-octane fuel is used. This will destroy the cast pistons in the LSA. Forged pistons are a smart upgrade. (The LS9 came with forged pistons from the factory.) Due to extremely high cylinder pressure, the heads can start to lift around 1,000 hp. At that point, you will need to basically build a whole new engine. The following upgrades will be required.
Auto Club Raceway at Pomona became the site of Dan Fletcher’s 103rd national event win at this year’s NHRA Winternationals. “I’m always on a mission, it’s just whether you get lucky and the Lord blesses you and you get the win, that’s all,” Fletcher said, following his victory over a red-lighting Clint Neff in the Competition Eliminator final. “This weekend it worked out. We were really fortunate, and we won. Our chances weren’t great, but there’s just so much luck involved in this. We got it done.”
Upgrading the camshaft will require the matching valve springs. Titanium retainers are also recommended. They will reduce the valve weight and prevent valve float. The trunnion bearings in the stock rocker arms are a known weak point. We strongly recommend a trunnion upgrade kit. Swapping in a set of full roller rockers is another option.
As fuel gets hotter, it will become more vaporous, and in a closed system it can build pressure that will lead to fuel flow irregularities, especially inside the fuel rails. And since fuel becomes more vaporous at hotter temperatures, it also becomes less dense, leading to a weaker fuel charge delivered into the cylinders by the fuel injectors.
Fuel injectors and the rails that hold them are just as susceptible to heat issues as the carburetors they replaced. Located on top of the engine, fuel rails see a lot of heat exposure. On late model vehicles this issue is further compounded by how compact and tight modern engine compartments tend to be, along with the factory engine covers that are all the rage these days, trapping even more heat that can be transferred to the fuel as it flows through the rails on its way to the injectors.
The cooler the fuel rails are, the cooler the fuel inside them will stay, which helps to improve injector performance and prevent power loss. With the AutoRama show rolling into Dallas, TX, auto photographers had their cameras ready and we were fortunate to get our hands on some of their work.
McClelland used a .007-second reaction time with a 9.924 at 149.22 mph on the 9.90 index to defeat Phil Unruh’s .026 with a breakout 9.899 at 159.29. It was a close race decided by just .003-second that sent Kyle Rizzoli and his SS/CA 1969 Camaro to the Super Stock winner’s circle in Pomona. Both Rizzoli (.010-second) and GT/IA ’92 Cutlass driver Adam Emmer (.022) hit the mark at the tree, but it was Rizzoli who went on to score his sixth national event win with a 9.579 (9.56) at 133.55 to a 10.120 (10.11), 125.89.
